Soi 8 News
The famous Toy Beer Bar in front of the Baron Beach Hotel on Soi 8 closed.
Club 23 on the same street and just opposite of the Baron Beach Hotel is known for its Coyote Dancers. It is enlarging its bar.
Unconfirmed rumors say that the club will employ A Go-Go Girls in the near future.
Disco reopens
Club B4, on Soi Diamond and opposite of Byblos A Go-Go and Coyote, reopened a few days ago.
The new venue is an
all-in-one Bar & Disco with A Go-Go Girls and Coyote Dancers. The club was closed since February 2009. The club with connections to the Cocco Resort is currently searching Coyote and Go-Go-Girls and claims to pay up to 30'000 Baht/month... Money
The monthly income of a lady working at Pattaya's Supermarkets is about 7'200 Baht.
That is about 280 Baht/working day.
How much do you pay for your dinner?
On the move?
Irany, the disco club at Covent Garden on Soi 16, opened a 'branch' on Soho Square.
The Iranian Discotheque installed a neon sign on Walking Street, just in front of Utopia Lounge, pointing to the new bar.
A lady in the neighbourhood told me that the place probably will change its name to Iranian Square, World Square or simply Super Square...
Update: On February 19th the new club was open and was hardly awaiting its first customers.
The Return
of the Mafia Girls On our Tour de Pattaya on February 16th we could spot some Mafia Girlz at Walking Street's Goodfellas.
Venues without ladies seem to work on Soi Buakhaow and on South Road only...
In the Water
On February 15th Pattaya got some rain.
Have a guess what happened:
Parts of Pattaya's Second Road were under Water.
Same procedure as every year. After living here for more than 20 years we lost the hope that the situation ever improves.
Reopened
Sakura Club 69, an A Go-Go Bar on Soi 15, off Walking Street, reopened on February 15th with a new owner.
The venue was closed since October last year.
The World's most expensive Locations for Expats:
1. Tokyo
2. Moscow 3. Hong Kong No listing for Pattaya... Nevertheless, living in Pattaya can get expensive too: If you stay with a Thai Lady you not only have to feed her and her children, but whole her clan! Unlucky Exercise
On February 14th (Valentine's Day) two F16 fighters of the Thai Air Force crashed over Chaiyaphum.
The two F16s disappeared from radar at 10:20.
They were part of a flight of four F16s and took part in the annual Cobra Gold exercise.
Both pilots ejected safely.
Air Force commander Ithaporn Suphawong called the crash a mystery, but I can't see how the crash could be related to black magic, he said.
Funny
or simply stupid? On Valentine's Day CentralFestival Shopping Center on Beach Road launched a pet wedding ceremony with certificates...
On Valentine's Day too, Ripley's Believe it or not and Louis Tussaud's Waxworks at Royal Garden Plaza's 3rd floor started a world record attempt for the world's longest kiss...
Kisses between Thai people in public are a No-No in the Kingdom, therefore the participants had to present their marriage certificates!
Do you know?
South Africa has the highest rate of mid-late teenage pregnancy in the entire world.
Thailand ranks second. 7 per cent of Thai women aged 15-19 already have children.
A homemade problem.
Accidently Thailand can't blame the Farangs.
Out of Money or what?
Since many weeks the sign at the entry to Diamond Arcade is out of order, but the responsible people seem to ignore it.
A sign is like a business card. If you don't have one, or a dirty one only, you are a nobody.
Sooner or later you will be out of business.
Bad Luck
A few month ago Tesco/Lotus said they are collecting thousands of sales prices from their competitors to guarantee the cheapest prices.
Our tour on February 13th showed that almost all goods, from Coca-Cola to Ovaltine and Cheese were 2 to 4 Baht more expensive at Tesco/Lotus than at its competitors...
Replaced
A new Relaxxx sign replaced the defunct Boesché Club advertisement on Walking Street, at the entry to Soi 16.
Clean up!
On Wednesday February 8th at about midnight Pattaya Police collected the remaining beauties on Pattaya's Beach Promenade.
The driver of Baht Bus 199 had the privilege to transport the ladies to the police station.
New Starbucks
The most famous name in coffee will soon disappear from Starbucks' cups. The company unveiled a new logo designed to conquer new markets.
You remember: Never change a winning horse.
Pattaya Sales:
12 Months/Year After last months Amazing Sales with up to 70% discounts we are confronted with End of Season Sales with up to 70% price reductions all over Pattaya. We have sales all around the year. The next one will be called New Season Sales.
Curious: The 70% never go into my wallet...
Rebirth of Polo
The former Polo Club at Absolute Entertainment comes back to the same location but with a new format: The management is currently recruiting Catwalkers as well as Coyote Dancers.
According to the advertisements it's up to the ladies if they like to join Farangs (or any other visitors) - or not..
Until October 2009 Polo was known as a very expensive Go-Go Club. Later it was integrated into the Galaxy Club, now known as Galaxy Cabaret.
With all their venues, on Walking Street as well as on Second Road, Absolute's management is targeting Pattaya's upper classes. The new Polo wouldn't be an exception.
The management already announces Polo Striptis on Stage. Striptis is probably a Thai copy of something known as Striptease in more educated & developed countries...
Renovation Time
Sexy A-GoGo on Soi 7 and Shark Club A-GoGo on Soi Diamond have closed their venues for renovations.
The ladies from Sexy can be found at Kiss A-Go-Go on Soi LK-Metro, the dancers from Shark can be admired at Tiger on Walking Street, but some of Shark's touts I spoted at the new V2O Ice Bar.
Closed
UOB Exchange booth on Soho Square, off Walking Street, closed.
Ice Bar opened
Closed Spa too... The all new V2O Ice Bar at the entry to Soi 15 opend on February 1st.
On February 1st the Gentlemen Spa on 3rd Road reopend. It's one of Pattaya's venues that closes down and reopens every few months...
Relocated
and forgotten A few weeks ago this telephone booth was relocated from Beach Road to Central Road.
Unconnected and therefore unusable it is obstructing the sidewalk (for the years to come?).
Update: The forgotten phone booth disappeared just before Valentine's Day. Thank you!
Unused
Produced, installed and paid, but never used.
On December 16th, 2010 the Chief of the Sea Rescue Teams of Pattaya promised to rectify this shortfall in the near future.
The observation towers are still empty...
TiP (This is Pattaya)!
The Monkeys are back
Since a few days at least four monkeys are back on Walking Street - but Pattaya police can't(?) see them!

Parade announced
Pattaya City Hall announced a Saint Patrick's Day Parade on March 17th, 2011.
It will start at (about) 13:00 on Soi 4 to the front of Walking Street.
Saint Patrick's Day is an important day for Irish citizens and Irish expats,
as is Pattaya Bedrace for Murphy's Law.
Mike rided
On January 28th a Team of Police from the Central Chonburi Provincial Station raided Mike Shopping Mall after receiving numerous complaints about pirated products at this mall.
It is known since many years - at last to the public - that this shopping mall is selling pirated goods at its beach side shops.
The police arrested a 32-year old sunglasses and eye wear vendor from Khon Kaen only, but promised that many more pirated goods will be wiped out soon from Pattaya's best known copycat distributor...
Mike Plaza, also on Beach Road and a few metres only from Walking Street, is selling all kind of copies at almost all of its boothes - unhampered.
Caramel opened
After a few fizzled starts during the last few weeks Caramel, the new Russian Restaurant, Lounge Café and Strip Hall, celebrated its official opening on January 28th.
The Caramel Entertainment Center is located on the second floor of the Bali Hai Entertainment Complex.
You can't miss it:
Its touts welcome you with open arms already in front of the building. Previous Publications

Warning!
Do not use Jet Skis in Pattaya!
It is known that the Jet Ski Operators are charging tourists excessive amounts for minor damage which they are alleged to have caused to the machines. Sometimes the damage is genuine, however most of the time it is an old damage which was not picked-up by the Tourist.
Jet Ski Operators, interpreters and local police, including some Tourist Police Officers, seems to be involved in the scams.
In most cases a percentage of the collected money is distributed amongst all parties involved in the incident, including police and interpreters.
With the exception of holding meetings after meetings about the subject, Pattaya City Hall didn't do anything to stop the scams.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunpluem already suggested that a committee be set up to control and supervise the Jet Ski businesses in both Pattaya and Jomtien - to the benefit of all - including the Jet Ski mafia...
Pattaya Traffic Lights
Pattaya Police tells City Hall:
Shut Down Pattaya's High Tech Traffic Lights! Pattaya's High Tech Pedestrian Signals should be turned down at least during Weekends, Pattaya Police told City Hall.
The beeping and blinking signals are ignored by almost all drivers: They simply blew through red lights. Pedestrian do not push the button to activate a signal, because you never know if the signals are working or not.
Police want a redesign of the whole system.
As a frequent reader of Pattaya-at-Night you already know since many months that Pattaya's Pedestrian Lights are one of Pattaya's greatest jokes and never worked correctly. For many people it seems to be just another attempt of City Hall to waste the taxpayer's money to the benefit of some good friends...
Chonburi's Senator Surachai Chaitrakulthong is luring potential investors from Taiwan and other countries by promising 'Thailand's plus is the availability of a skilled workforce'. The contrary is true, Thailand's problem is the lack of a skilled workforce. Yellow Shirts are Back on Bangkok's Streets!
Thai Government introduce new law in Bangkok to fight the yellow shirted nationalists.
The Yellow Shirts, also known as PAD (People's Alliance for Democracy), are back on Bangkok's Streets. The highly nationalist movement, responsible for the occupation of Bangkok's Airports during November 2008 and the recent clashes with Cambodia, is threatening to occupy key city sites on Friday to increase pressure on the government over the Cambodia issue.
The group, which has strong support from Bangkok's Elite and at least a part of Thailand's Army, has intensified its protest and is now calling for the government to step down.
They say Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his government had failed in its efforts to run the country and to resolve the border dispute with Cambodia. We want someone who has leadership quality, is honest, courageous, decisive and capable of protecting Thai sovereignty and of solving the corruption problem, the leaders of the Yellow Shirts say.
Abhisit's Government invoked the Internal Security Act (ISA) to deal with the Yellow Shirt's street protests. The ISA will be used in seven districts of Bangkok from February 9th to 23rd to effectively oversee security. The enforcement of the law is to prevent incidents that jeopardise national security, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said.
An Expert estimates:
Pattaya Beach could disappear within 5 years
An Expert from Chulalongkorn University's Aquatic Resources Research Institute has released a paper which shows that the erosion at Pattaya's beaches is very critical.
The faculty's head of disaster studies says that the distance to the water was about 36 metres in 1952 and had fallen to 18.7 metres in 2002. Prof Thanawat Jarupongsakul found the beach width had dropped sharply to just four to five metres during the last few years.
Without serious action, Pattaya Beach will disappear within five years, the Professor said.
According to the expert, the erosion is caused mainly by changes in wave patterns reducing deposits of sand on the beach and this is being exacerbated by increased beach use. To counter the erosion 200'000 cubic metres of sand has to be filled along the 4.48 kilometres of the beach to expand its width to 30 metres.
We are not experts, therefore we see the problem from a different point of view. Take the problematic Naklua beach: With every year the new buildings come a few meter nearer to the water - and not the water to the buildings! Some owners of buildings already are occupying whole the beach. When Pattaya was a small fisher village the seaside of today's Walking Street had a nice Beach too, but whole the area got overbuilt. The beach disappeared under the bars, shops and dancings. That's the way the beaches in Pattaya disapear and not under the much cited influence of the global warming myth. It seems that in both cases the Landlords are ignoring almost all of Thailand's laws. One of Thailand's law requires that 30 metres (see above!) of all beaches belong to the public. But the law was made before Thailand and Pattaya in particularly discovered mass tourism - and perhaps even before some people discovered the long-term benefits of tea money. Tony's new Lightshow

Thai Army...? Only a few days after a Cambodian court sentenced two yellow-shirt Thai activists to eight and six years in jail for espionage and trespassing a disputed border area a fighting broke out between Thai soldiers and Cambodian troops on February 4th.

History
In 1962 the World Court ruled that Preah Vihear temple belonged to Cambodia.
Nevertheless, the temple's main entrance lies in Thailand.
A 4.6-square-kilometre area around the temple is claimed by both sides.
When the 11th-century Hindu temple was granted UN World Heritage status in July 2008 some Thai politicians and the powerful Yellow Shirts group initiated the border tensions.
During October 2008 the border tensions already triggered a heavy gun fire between Thailand and Cambodia at the Preah Vihear Temple Site.
On Sunday February 6th 2011 Cambodia urged the United Nations to help stop the invasion by Thailand.
The fightings erupted along the border with Cambodia in Si Sa Ket's Kantharalak district.
Pictures show that the disputed 900-year old Preah Vihear temple was hit and badly damaged.
A poll published on February 13th showed that 87.4 per cent of the respondents think Thai soldiers had acted appropriately to protect the country's sovereignty.
72 per cent said the border conflict should settled by negotiation.
5 per cent of the respondents said only a war could settle this border conflict...
