Thai Police in hot water
After a Chinese tourist documented on her Douyin app, (the Chinese version of TikTok) that by paying 7'000 baht she not only avoided the queue at Suvanabhumi Immigration, but was also escorted by police to her hotel in Pattaya, the police knew no better than to warn tourists about 'fake policemen'!
In the meantime, however, the evidence was so great that at least two of the three (real) police officers involved were suspended from duty ....
If you believe the comments in the Bangkok Post, everyone already knows how corrupt Thailand is. In greedy Thailand, you can buy anything and everything. The police should warn residents and tourists about their own people - and not about the (hardly existing) "police lookalikes".

A Taiwanese celebrity called An Yu Ching has taken to Instagram to relate her experience just after New Year (2023):
Charlene, An's name in English, said she was stopped at a police checkpoint on January 4th, 2023. The police asked for her passport and visa, and she showed them a VOA (Visa on Arrival). But the police gave her a hard time by asking where her real visa was and she was subjected to a body and bag check. She was then taken to the police station where she had to apologise for something she had not done. She was then taken to a quiet corner and asked for 27'000 baht to sort everything out.

On 30 January, Khaosod English wrote on its Facebook account: "Former massage parlour tycoon Chuwit Kamolvisit, who works as a private investigator, said on Monday morning that there is a video clip showing Taiwanese actress Charlene An being extorted by police at the Huay Kwang checkpoint. A Thai woman who attended An's party in early January has a clip showing police extorting the money, adding that it was the woman who handed over 27,000 baht to police".
BREAKING (January 30th, 2023): The Bangkok Metropolitan Police issued a statement on Monday, January 30th, confirming that the Huay Kwang Police extorted money from Taiwanese actress Charlene An as alleged. The statement said the investigation is still in its early stages and it is not yet clear if the amount was 27'000 baht.

Organised Met police contributes 324 MBaht/month to 'central fund'
According to research by Chuwit Kamolvisit, a former MP and massage parlour boss and credible whistleblower, millions of baht are extorted from the Thai public and tourists every month at all 88 police stations and its checkpoints in the capital.
Since Pol Lt-Gen Thiti Saengsawang took command at the Met late last year, extortion has become a well-organised business, claims Chuwit Kamolvisit.
The reason for the new extortion system, he says, is that the police's sources of income from casinos have dried up after a crackdown on gambling from above.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha supports efforts to reform the police, as he said eight years ago, but the RTP has not been reformed under his government. Taxi fraud most preoccupies visitors
The latest survey by the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) found that overpriced taxi services are the main complaint of foreign tourists, along with poor waste disposal and airport facilitation.
The survey of tourists in Bangkok found that they are unhappy with what they see as unfair treatment, as taxi drivers often only pick up passengers who agree to pay a fare without using the taxi meter, meaning that drivers can arbitrarily charge higher prices for their service.
As long as the politicians, the police and the army serve as a guide, it is unlikely that the taxi drivers will change their behaviour ....

you can buy them everywhere
Not only vapeing or using e-cigarettes is illegal in Thailand, even possesing vapes are illegal in this funny Kingdom.
The ban has been in force since 2014. Anyone who violates this law in Thailand - i.e. uses or even possesses one of these devices - can be arrested and faces fines or even imprisonment.
Nevertheless, you can buy the devices on almost every street corner in Thailand - and the accessories as well! No problem for the sellers, if they only "support" the police with the appropriate small change!
Anyway, Thailand's police are not so much interested in the street vendors, but rather in the smoking tourists, because they have, at least according to the police, much more money with them, which is then occasionally taken from them.

The Thai government is corrupt at every level, comments in Bangkok Post claim. Here is a(nother) proof:
Published by Khaosod ENGLISH on November 28th on its Facebook page:
A 27-year-old civil engineer working for a local administrative body in Nong Bua Lamphu province committed suicide on Friday night and left a damming suicide letter saying he decided to take his own life because he couldn't bear the systemic and endemic corruption at his workplace related to inspection and approval of road and infrastructural construction.
Panumesuan wrote to final letter to his parents that he couldn't cope with the corruption system where he was instructed to collect bribes from construction contractors to distribute it to local officials at his tampon administrative office.
"To dad and mom... I'm sorry I have to be doing this.
"I am confronted with an awkward workplace... where I am being coerce into extorting bribe for testing materials," he wrote, adding that the rate is 3 percent of the construction costs.
"I am newly employed and not knowing the rules well only to confront with systemic corruption which is a culture of the tambon administrativeorganisation [Or Bor Tor]," wrote Panumesuan, who joined the local administration six months ago but tendered a resignation letter effective Dec 1."
"In the end I realized I couldn't habitually adjust to the corruption culture.... The local [administrative] system is like a tool for the administrators to make money and not just politicians but civil servant like the director of the Civil Engineering Section as well... Their bad deeds can be narrated without end. May all of them pay for their graft and corruption... If my body is still well [after suicide] please donate it to Khon Kaen University's Department of Anatomy."
Panumesuan's body was found inside his pickup truck where he apparently took his own life by letting the car emissions in. The man also left another letter to the public inside the car.

Thailand's government shows how it's done
The Military Junta as well as the current government under Prayut Chan-o-cha's dictatorship encouraged public & amusement parks as well as hospitals to apply the two-price system to pull the money out of the pockets of foreigners.
A popular trick to disguise the scam is to list the entrance fees for Thais in Thai script, but those for foreigners in English.
For additional information and warnings about parks and organisations ripping off tourists please click 2pricethailand.com or Two Price Thailand on twitter.
New Tourism fee:
When entering the land of smiles, you will soon have to pay an insurance fee of 300 Baht. Then there is the exit tax of 700 Baht. Then there is the fee of 1'000 Baht (or more) for the re-entry permit for each trip abroad. And, of course, double to five times the price for most tourist attractions. Since the military under Dictator Prayut Chan-o-cha took power, Thailand has become a very greedy place.
TwitLonger: More doubts over the introduction of the new Thai tourist arrival tax
Of the 300 Baht, 11.3% or 34 Baht will be used for a 30 day insurance. The remaining 88.7% or 266 Baht will be allocated to a fund for the development of infrastructure for foreign tourism in the Kingdom, i.e. the money will go into some as yet undefined pockets ....
Update (February 14th, 2023):
Today the Thai Cabinet greenlighted the 300-baht “landing fee” for foreigners arriving by air. The fee is expected to go into effect from around June 1, or 90 days after it has been published in the Royal Gazette.
