Emercency Decree extended

Extended
During a CCSA meeting on July 8th, 2022, chaired by the prime minister, it was agreed to extend the state of emergency until September 30th, 2022.
A spokesman told the press that the prime minister in his capacity as the CCSA director stressed that the extension is intended only to control the disease and protect people's lives and there is no other purpose for the exercise of this executive decree. The government had no intention to use it to limit people's freedom, he added.*
Thailand's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) is supervised by Thailand's Prime Minister, Dictator, Songwriter and the man of many words Prayut Chan-o-cha.
This is the 19th extension of the special law.
The government insistes that the extension is necessary to facilitate the swift and integrated implementation of measures to control Covid-19 for the sake of public safety.
This special law was enacted March 26th, 2020, and gives Prayut Chan-o-cha wide-ranging powers, including a ban on large gatherings to prevent anti-government protests.
Over the past two years the emergency has been invoked mainly to deal with political protests.
*August 2nd, 2022: The Royal Gazette published an order signed by Prayut Chan-o-cha as head of Centre for COVID-19 Situation Admistration (CCSA) banning protest and public gathering leading to infections. Citing small wave of infections, violators face up to 2 years jail and/or fine of up to 40'000 Baht. Order is effective August 1st, 2022.

A comment read in Bangkok Post: This is one of the prime reasons stated by Prayuth to justify the coup back in 2014. A complete reform of the police, military and civil service. Also an end to corruption plus to bring happiness and reconciliation to the Thai people. In 8 years he hasn't even been able to fix the price of lottery tickets let alone anything else.

After school cannabis?
In typical Thai fashion, cannabis and hemp were removed from the list of category 5 narcotics before supportive laws for recreational use were even discussed.
Now these substances are sold everywhere and added to all kinds of drinks and food. Shops that sell cannabis and publicly advertise THC and CBD even in the immediate vicinity of schools.
Just a few metres from the entrance of School No. 8, at the junction of Second Road and South Road, are at least three such shops ....

Useless bus stops get a new coat of paint every few months
On the initiative of the governor of Chonburi, the unused bus stops in Pattaya have long been brought back into the public consciousness with new paint every few months - and consistently ignored by all Baht bus drivers and all other bus drivers as well.
Also interesting: many of the bus stops are in places where no one has the slightest desire to get on or off a bus. But where people live, work or shop, there is usually no bus stop.
In Jomtien we also noticed that all bus stop signs and also the covered seats have been silently removed. Of course, this corresponds to a certain logic. Once erected, signs and seats do not bring in any more revenue in the long run ....
Is it therefore unreasonable to think that someone should take a closer look at the bank accounts of those involved in these silly actions?

Cambodian workers get scamed

Cambodian workers are being cheated
Since Thailand allegedly does not have enough construction and factory workers, the country imports the missing labour from the surrounding countries of Laos, Myamar and Cambodia.
During the pandemic, the military-dominated government has introduced new regulations for foreign workers, which, as usual in this country, leads to a form war in the bureaucracy.
Since these forms, with which even expats have had their share of experiences, are designed in such a way that a normal worker can hardly understand them, "agencies" have stepped in to do the work and thus make a fortune with the help of civil servants.
In order for a worker to get a legal work permit, he now has to pay around 18'000 Baht - and that for a daily wage of 300 baht! Some employers don't even hand out these papers to the workers, even though they have to pay for them!

Inflation
Does the government cheat us?
25% more!
On 25 August 2022, the Ministry of Internal Trade finally gave the go-ahead for an increase in retail prices for instant noodles. The price of the most popular brands of instant noodles will increase by 1 baht per pack. That doesn't sound much, but an increase from 6 baht to 7 baht per pack is still an increase of almost 16%!
From September 2022, the price of electricity in Thailand will increase by about 25%, according to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA)!
Since January 2022, the price of drinking water in Thailand has increased by 10 %. At least the same price increases can be expected for cleaning agents and detergents as well as skin care products such as soaps, bath additives and shampoos, but also for laundry detergents and dental cleaning products. Eggs have become about 50 % more expensive in this period, the price of pork has increased by about one third. Petrol has increased in price by up to 50 % in recent weeks. Due to the weak baht and increased freight costs, all imported products have also become significantly more expensive.
Nevertheless, the Bank of Thailand (BoT) only expects an inflation rate between 1-3%, but according to other sources, the inflation rate in June 2022 alone was 7.66%.

Pattaya Monorail
Still alive
Monorail
Those who thought Pattaya's long-discussed light rail/monorail project had been cancelled are mistaken. The Kunplome clan's project is still alive and is also supported by the new mayor, who is also a member of the clan.
The monorail, in our opinion, is an absolutely stupid project that only serves to line the pockets of those involved. The family of the late Godfather of Chonburi is known far beyond the borders for their nonsensical large-scale projects such as the already dismantled Bali Hai Marine Port, the failed Pattaya Beach Promenade and the Bali Hai car park that never really worked. Millions of baht have also been spent so far on the Pattaya Sky Train project under Itthiphol Kunplome. The project was halted by the then government but later revived by Itthiphol's brother Sontaya Khunpleum as the Pattaya Monorail when the clan supported the military led Thai government.
The monorail will run from the planned high-speed railway station in Pattaya via Second Road to Bali Hai and is intended to calm traffic on the streets. An unfulfilled hope, because the monorail cannot take the tourists with their luggage to the hotels, the (partly outdated, unkempt and smelly) buses will do that again in the future. Local tourists will also continue to use their own means of transport, simply because the majority of Thais are not willing to walk long distances, even with luggage or shopping bags. Motorbike taxi and baht bus drivers know a thing or two about this.
Who will use the monorail then? Sightseeing tourists, and they will not be able to cover the costs of the project. So after a few years of operation, the project will be buried again - or remembered as another building ruin of the Kunplome clan ....
Excerpt from a reply to a Reader Talkback from The Pattaya News: Yes. But I think before we invest in that infrastructure the city needs to seriously look at pavements and sidewalks, if we are to be taken seriously as a tourist destination. Better access for disabled, elderly people and families. (Mr. Egg. LePub)

Soi Chaiyaphoon
In recent weeks, several new bars have opened in Soi Chaiyaphoon, also known as Soi Chalermphrakiat 25. Soi Chaiyaphoon connects Pattaya 3rd Road with Soi Buakhao and Soi Xzite.
Today, however, we would like to point out two well-known venues that did not survive the pandemic.
Lolitas, Soi Chaiyaphoon

Lolitas closed for good
After Lolitas in Bangkok closed due to the tragic death of its owner, it was assumed that the Pattaya branch would meet the same fate. And so it has happened. RIP.

Moon Light A Go-Go closed!
Moon Light A Go-Go, the only A Go-Go bar in Soi Chaiyaphoon, made only a brief guest appearance. The pandemic breathed its last before it had really begun. RIP.
The successor to Moon Light is the Lucky Nicha / White Angel bar.

The massage parlour already opened on August 26th.
