On March 18th, 2022, the Thai cabinet extended the state of emergency nationwide by two months until May 31st, 2022, ostensibly to deal with the local Covid 19 situation. The extionsion was proposed by the National Security Council (NSC). The NSC functions as the operations unit of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration and is supervised by Thailand's Prime Minister, Dictator, Songwriter and the man of many words Prayut Chan-o-cha. This is the 17th extension of the special law. The government insistes that the extension is necessary to facilitate the swift and integrated implementation of measures to control Covid-19 for the sake of public safety. This special law was enacted March 26th, 2020, and gives Prayut Chan-o-cha wide-ranging powers, including a ban on large gatherings to prevent anti-government protests.

With the exception of the state lottery, all gambling is banned in Thailand. Yet, strangely enough, whenever a military government is in charge, forces try to force a relaxation of the law in order to still be able to operate casinos in Thailand. So now again. Thai authorities - the government is once again dominated by the military - are reportedly looking into the possibility of legalising casinos. According to well-informed circles, the still unknown "people's representatives" have already contacted the casino giant Las Vegas Sands and its CEO Rob Goldstein to build a resort in Bangkok to rival the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. It is said that the interested parties want to build a 5 billion dollar property, preferably in Bangkok, for foreigners only.. Ripping off tourists the Thai way.

Sontoya Kunplome was appointed mayor of Pattaya on September 25th, 2018, by order of Thailand's dictator General Prayut Chan-o-cha, replacing Anan Charoenchasri on October 29th, who was appointed by the military junta in 2016. Sontaya's younger brother Ittipol Kunplome held the office until his term expired on June 16th, 2016. The two belong to the Kunplome clan, which has shaped Chonburi's history for many years and was led by Somchai Khunploem. Somchai, who is not unjustly called the Godfather of Chonburi, took every opportunity to expand his sphere of influence and increase his income. Sontoya Kunplome, his wife Sukamol Kunplome, a former beauty queen, served in the Thai Ministry of Culture before the dictator took power. On April 18th, 2018, the media reported that General Prayuth Chan-ocha had appointed Sonthaya Kunploem as Advisor to the Prime Minister and Itthiphol Kunploem as Assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Sports in his new government. After stepping down from office on March 25th, 2022, Sontoya Kunplome announced that he would now devote more time to national politics. So the Kunplome clan is trying to expand its sphere of influence and extend it to the whole country. Pattaya's first city elections since 2012 will be held May 22nd, 2022.
