Emergency Decree
On November 26th 2021, the Thai cabinet extended the state of emergency nationwide by two months until the end of January 2022, ostensibly to deal with the local Covid 19 situation.
The extionsion was proposed by the National Security Council (NSC).
The NSC functions as the operations unit of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration and is supervised by Thailand's Prime Minister, Dictator, Songwriter and the man of many words Prayut Chan-o-cha.
This is the 15th extension of the special law.
The government insistes that the extension is necessary to facilitate the swift and integrated implementation of measures to control Covid-19 for the sake of public safety.
This special law was enacted March 26th, 2020, and gives Prayut Chan-o-cha wide-ranging powers, including a ban on large gatherings to prevent anti-government protests.

Online scams
Be cautious when buying online
As already mentioned, strong price differences can be observed especially in household appliances. Here is a particularly glaring example:
For the very same pasta maker you can pay 373 Baht or 1950 Baht at Lazada or Shopee or you can buy it at Index Living Mall for 2890 Baht.
In any case, this noodle machine is made in China by a company specialising in noodle machines called Yongkang Zongbang Industry And Trade Co. Ltd. When ordered in quantities of 1000 or more, this machine costs less than 10 US dollars.

Dirty Tap Water again
We celebrate: 1 Year dirty Tap Water!
For almost a year now, the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has been maltreating at least parts of the population of Naklua, Pattaya and Jomtien with dirty and sometimes foul-smelling tap water.
There is no end in sight, because this phenomenon is not new: the PWA has not been in control of Pattaya's water supply for decades.
As a local or foreign tourist, I would think twice about booking this area as a holiday destination, as this dirty water is not only used for washing clothes, but also for the 'cleaning' of all eating utensils. Your body, and therefore your immune system, also has to deal with this broth on a daily basis.
Our advice:
Stay at home or choose another, cleaner holiday destination!
Jomtien

A new Chinese food market will soon open opposite the Aiyara Palace Hotel on Naklua Road.
New Buffet Restaurant
In our April 2021 publication, we mentioned that a new karaoke & (Thai) pub called BUZZED PATTAYA was being built on Naklua Road on the back (and left) side of the VIP Bar Center (officially known as VIP Center Bar). In the meantime, the management has changed the format and name of the new pub. It is now a buffet restaurant called LOMA.

On Pattaya South Road, to the left of Texas Chicken in the premises of the defunct Mae Sri Ruen restaurant, Zaab High has opened a very cosy Isaan food outlet on two floors. Check it out with your girlfriend(s)!
New Bars
A couple of bars have opened on Pattaya Beach Road, at the entrance to the still-closed Pattaya Beer Garden. The place was known as Siren Bar Complex for many years.
Triumvirate
Tuk Tuk Kebab has opened a few meters from the South Road / Second Road intersection. The place not only sells (German inspired) kebab, but also pizzas.
Within a few meters, the hungry person is spoiled for choice between three vendors.
New multi-storey car park
The new Terminal21 multi-storey car park is nearing completion and is due to open shortly.
Once again, the difference between the private sector and politics is drastically demonstrated here:
It took less time to build the entire car park than to lay the cables underground on the few metres of Walking Street.
Soi 7
Pattaya Soi 7 knocked out by Covid-19. Nevertheless, some bars have been open since 16 December.
Soi 8, lights go out
The cozy Osteria Ristorante Al Dente is for sale
The once popular Subway sandwich outlet at the Eastiny Hotel is empty.
Rolling Live 3, the rock shed, is practically cleaned out.
Many more bars, restaurants and shops are for sale on Soi 8. Currently a truly bleak sight.

Several restaurants are preparing to open, including Kazuhiro, a Japanese buffet restaurant, and KFC.

The iconic market in Soi Buakhao is getting a new lease on life on December 5th.

Virus Warnings
Dengue Fever
While Thailand seems to have the corona virus under control, the situation with dengue fever, another viral disease, is extremely worrying in the Kingdom, especially during the rainy season.
Thailand's Public Health Officials advise people to make sure that there is no standing water around their homes, as this is a breeding ground for mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus.
Chikungunya
Another dangerous virus in this area is the Chikungunya virus. It is spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.
The most common symptoms of infection are fever and joint pain. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash.
The Chikungunya virus was found for the first time in the Americas on islands in the Caribbean in late 2013.
The virus was imported by infected travellers into new areas such as Thailand.
Currently there is no vaccine for prevention or medication to treat a Chikungunya virus infection.
Measles
Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by measles virus.
Symptoms usually develop 10–12 days after exposure to an infected person and last 7–10 days. Initial symptoms typically include fever, often greater than 40°C, cough, runny nose, and inflamed eyes. Small white spots may form inside the mouth two or three days after the start of symptoms. A red, flat rash which usually starts on the face and then spreads to the rest of the body typically begins three to five days after the start of symptoms.
Measles is an airborne disease which spreads easily from one person to the next through the coughs and sneezes of infected people.
No specific treatment is available but the measles vaccine is effective at preventing the disease and is exceptionally safe.
