Newly painted zebra crossings in Pattaya
We almost died laughing when Pattaya City Hall announced that it will be focusing on zebra crossings and pedestrian safety as a priority in Pattaya in 2020.
During the past few weeks our lovely City Boys let repainting existing pedestrian crossings and added some new ones. City Hall also claims that it repaired non functional lights, what's mostly fake news. Walk on Pattaya Beach Road or look at the Second Road/South Road crossing. There you can see out-of-order signal lights since many months - nobody cares!
City Hall claims too, that it stationed traffic police during peak times at crosswalks across the city, especially at local schools. Another fake news. Please observe the lively Second Road/South Road crossing during evening hours. The traffic police pick out foreign motorcycle drivers instead of stopping the traffic for the hordes of (mostly chinese) tourists trying to cross the streets to reach their busses. They still have to run for their lifes between motorbikes, cars, Baht busses and miniVans. Police don't care pedestrians!
City Hall has warned drivers that it is Thai law to give right of way to pedestrians at crosswalks and that enforcement will be increased city wide. It's true, but fact is that our lovely Police ignore the law since many years!
Pattaya Mail reports that even Pattaya's own police officers are ignoring the red lights and are claiming that they need a better system!
Pedestrian traffic lights have proven themselves all over the world. The statement of Pattaya's police shows once again how stupid these people are.

Fake figures?
Fake figures?
According to Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, Thailand welcomed its 38.26 millionth tourist to the Kingdom on December 20th, 2019, a record high that surpasses last year's 38.17 million arrivals. On December 28th, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Tourism and Sports Ministry even celebrated the arrival of the 39 millionth tourist at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn from Thailand's Tourism and Sports Ministry told the press that Thailand is expecting to welcome a total of 39.6 million to 39.8 million tourists by year-end and claimed that the kingdom remains one of the all-time favourite destinations of global travellers.
Hotel and Business owners from Pattaya to Chiang Mai doubt the numbers published by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Pattaya deputy governor Manoj Nongyai said that under normal circumstances, most hotels in the popular beach city would be fully booked during the high season, but this year the overall occupancy rate is 80%. But even this number is disputet, some hotels in this city even would be happy with an overall occupancy rate of 50%.
La-iad Bungsrithong, chief of the Thai Hotels Association's Northern Chapter, revealed on December 4th that the room occupancy in all districts of Chiang Mai is believed to drop to as low as 60 percent throughout this year, compared to 75 percent last year.
Mr. Kongsak Khongphongsakorn, President of the Thailand Hotels Association Southern chapter, said in a recent speech that Hotels at the forefront of Phuket's Patong Beach continue to remain fully booked although those elsewhere, including other beach areas, tend to only be at 50-60% occupancy, despite the impending high season.
myLady™ has its very own explanation for the discrepancy between the TAT number and the actual number of tourists in Thailand. The TAT counts all tourists, even those who stay only for a few hours, minutes or even seconds on Thai soil. They also add up the number of passengers flying over Thailand's territory, she claims. This is the Thai way to get impressive numbers, she says.

Oversupply
Buy one get one free!
Buy one House get one free!
Everybody knows that there is a huge oversupply in condos in the Pattaya area and that it's hard selling a property these days.
Prices already have started to decrease, developers drop the price and previous buyers have to sell with a loss.
Pensioners and people with an income from abroad, the former buyers of properties, start to flee Thailand and flocking to Vietnam, Cambodia and Philippines as they can enjoy a better lifestyle.
We recommend:
Never buy an unfinished property in Thailand. Pattaya is famous for its building ruins
Buy directly from the developer, not from an estate agent. Otherwise there is always the possibility that you will lose your investment
Be prepared that you are the only person who pays the utility bills. Many Thai people just ignore them with the result that no or only reduced security is offered, the swimming pool remains without water and the promised fitness room is unusable ...

Say Good Bye to Thailand?
Tesco Plc
Tesco Plc, Britain’s largest supermarket chain revealed on December 8th, 2019, that it is considering to offload its Thai and Malaysian businesses.
Tesco is expected to call for initial bids for the businesses as soon as this month.
Rumors say that the Charoen Pokphand Group (known as CP Group), the Central Group and the TCC Group (controlled by billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi) already have expressed interrest in buying Tesco's businesses.
CP Group's CP All Plc operates some 11'000 7-ELEVEN convenience stores and other businesses across the country
The Central Group is Thailand's largest retailer with department stores, shopping malls, (Tops & Central) supermarkets and a lot of other assets.
TCC's Berli Jucker Plc bought a controlling stake in Big C in 2016 and owns MAKRO as well. Big C is Thailand's second-largest supermarket chain.
Tesco runs more than 2'000 hypermarkets and convenience stores in Thailand under the Tesco/Lotus brand.
It all started from the Lotus Supercenter chain founded in 1994 by the CP Group. In 1998, Tesco Plc took a stake in Lotus and created Tesco/Lotus. The CP Group sold most of its shares in Tesco/Lotus in 2003.
Even if Tesco/Lotus has been advertised across the country in the past 20 years, Tesco/Lotus is still Lotus for the majority of Thai people ...
Old love does not die.
