Look here how stupid we are!
Pattaya Mail reports that the Officials from Pattaya City Hall still want to replace the Dolphin Roundabout by two - or even three - traffic lights.
We already reported last month about the stupid idea.
There are only two possibilities for City Hall's stubbornness:
a.) The transformation of the roundabout has be so lucrative that they can't stay away from the money
or
b.) Pattaya's Officials prefer to show the world how stupid they are.
Update (September 22nd):
Pattaya Mail reports that the removal of Dolphin Turnabout has been put on hold.
King of Fake News
Fighting Corruption?
Bangkok Post reports that a new report on corruption ranked Thailand as the third-worst country in the world in terms of bribery after India and Vietnam.
Transparency International (TI), the publisher of the report, claims that Thailand's new constitution, while it places significant focus on addressing corruption, entrenches military power and unaccountable government, undermining eventual return to democratic civilian rule. Free debate on the constitution was impossible; campaigning in opposition was banned and dozens of people were detained. The military junta also prohibited monitoring of the referendum. There is a clear absence of independent oversight and rigorous debate.

The Red Bull Mistery
Fugitive Red Bull Heir's has apparently found a way to disappear, Khaosod English reports and cites Ken Gamble, of IFW Global, a cyber-intelligence firm used by governments and police agencies, in a country like Thailand, money talks. Fugitives can often outsmart the authorities if they know what they're doing and they have contacts on the ground. Someone of his caliber, he'll have some pretty good advisers.
Another global security consultant, Richard Dailly, of Kroll, said I think he’s being protected.

Immigration News
Important Notice
Since General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his Military Junta launched their Coup d'état on May 22nd, 2014, Thailand's Visa ground rules are constantly changing. More over, not every consulate can issue all the different Visas. Some smaller consulates even display notices to the effect that non-immigrant visas are unavailable.
Our advice: Before booking your holidays please contact the Embassy in your country to obtain information about Thailand's latest regulation(s) and check the Chonburi Immigration Website or the website of Thailand's Immigration Police.
Update (March 2016):
New Overstay Regulations
Thailand's new immigration policy will take effect on March 20th of this year.
Please click for details!
Busy Immigration
Pol Lt Gen Nathathorn Prousoontorn, chief of the Immigration Bureau, informed the media that between October 2015 and March 2016 Thailand's Immigration deported a total of 486'947 foreigners who overstayed their visas. Another 323'575 foreigners overstaying their visas still remain at large.
If the numbers mentioned above are correct, the Immigration Bureau deported about 2'700 people a day...
Congratulation!
Never trust a statistic that you have not manipulated yourself!
New 10-year Visa
Thailand's interim Government announced on November 22nd, 2016, that foreign residents over 50 will be able to apply for 10-year visas.
The new Visa would replace one-year renewable visas and come in two installments of five years each.
Applicants must either earn a monthly salary of at least 100'000 Baht or have more than 3 million Baht in their bank account, which cannot be withdrawn within the first year after receiving the visa.
Applicants also must also have a health insurance that covers hospital stays and provides at least US$10'000 in annual coverage.
Visa holders will still have to check in every 90 days with the Bureau of Immigration.
Up & Down
Thailand's Military Junta cuts the visa-on-arrival fee for tourists from Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan from today 2'000 Baht to 1'000 Baht.
The 1'000-Baht fee for visas sought at Thai embassies and consulates would be lifted.
The reduction is applicable from December 1st, 2016, to February 28th, 2017, only.
The change was announced less than two months after the visa fee was increased to 2'000 Baht on September 27th, 2016...
New Rules
Foreigners who enter Thailand without a visa via a land border crossing can now do so only twice per calendar year.
Those who seek to enter Thailand without a visa via a land border checkpoint for a third time in a calendar year may be denied entry and asked to apply for a regular visa first.
Entries through international airports are not affected by this new regulation.
While eligible foreigners who enter Thailand under the “visa exemption” scheme would previously get 30 days exclusively at international airports but only 15 days at border crossings, this rule has now been relaxed and all foreigners will receive 30-day entry stamps also at land border checkpoints.
The new rules went into effect on December 31st, 2016.
Free visas extended
Bangkok Post reports that Thailand's Government extended by six months to August free visas at Thai consulates and embassies and discounts on visas on arrival for visitors from 21 countries.

Military Junta creates a Tourists hostile Thailand
The always amzing Thailand
Each year the US State Department issues dozens of advisories with the intent of keeping Americans safe as they travel abroad.
Mexico, Mali, and Israel have been targeted by the most travel warnings in recent years, but Americans are more likely to be killed in Thailand, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
According to statistics published by the British Government the so-called 'Land of Smiles' is a deadly country.
British officials have faced a startling rise in the number of deaths and hospitalisations of British citizens in Thailand, newly-released figures show.
Deaths jumped from 296 in 2011-2012 to 389 in the year ending April 1 this year. Hospitalisations rose from 217 to 285 in the same period, the official statistics show.
The increase in both is a sharp rise of 31 percent.
Australian's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade claims that Thailand and Indonesia are among the most dangerous places to visit.
Even Thais aggree: A recently published survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University shows that there has been an increase in serious cases regarding national security, safety and crime - including bombings, drug trafficking, robberies and murders - during the administration of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
GOV.UK warns that 'the political situation in Thailand is unpredictable and sometimes volatile'.
'On 22 May 2014, the military took control of government. Article 44 of the interim constitution gives General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), wide powers to continue to take action to enforce law and order, and restrictions remain on freedom of assembly and expression', the site reports.
Many tourists travelling Asian countries are claiming that Thai people are the rudest to tourists, with many witnessed an unnecessary hostile behaviour towards the Farang.
In most Southeast Asia countries locals are actually interested in being friends with you. Thais have no interest at all. The ones who seem interested are usually scammers.
Thailand's actual Government obviously is supporting this attitude: During the last few weeks some tourist visa holders being asked to show Immigration Officials 20'000 Baht in CASH when entering Thailand.
Reports have surfaced on social media of foreigners being refused entry for not having 20'000 Baht in cash when entering the Kingdom. One person even claimed that they could show proof of hotel bookings, details of an onward flight and bank statements showing funds, but was still refused entry.
Some Police Officers in Pattaya are known to be especially rude, furthermore, in many documented cases Thailand's Policemen don't help the victims but the wrongdoers. It is known since many years, but nobody cares.

Thais don't speak about Sex, they do it!

According to Thailand's Ministry of Public Health, around 300'000 women had abortions in 2009. Thirty percent of these women were younger than 20 years old. This means pregnant students and abortions are serious issues.
Pregnant students are still taboo topics in Thailand's schools because most people, including teachers, think that to get pregnant as a student or to have an abortion is a sin. Moreover, about 90 percent of pregnant students decided to drop out of school.
Legal abortion pills are now available in Thailand but women can't get the pills easily because Thailand's Food and Drug Administration, many doctors, nurses as well as the society itself don't want to allow it...
Sexuality education in Thailand is very limited and parents usually are very hesitant to talk about sex to their children.
During the last few years, I told myLady many times to tell her two underage daughters the 'fact of life'. It didn't happen. The consequence can be seen: The younger one, just 16-years-old, is pregnant.

Midnight Pattaya
Soi BJ & Marine Plaza, off Walking Street
Announced as Midnight Pattaya, the first entertainment places at the 'prestigious project' should open during January 2017. It didn't happen. Residents report that they couldn't spot any construction workers for many weeks. Let's hope we would not face another Soho Square debacle.
The latest announcement from Midnight Pattaya:

Update (August 9th):
Bangkok Post reports that Hussein Maher, the 61-year old Finish owner of the building, on August 8th at about 02:30 had fallen from the second floor of Midnight Mall on Soi BJ to the ground floor. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Should one of the patients mentioned above survive our emergency room, you will read it here.

September is generally considered the weakest month in terms of turnover here in Pattaya. On Soi New Plaza, a street that connects Soi Buakhaow with Pattaya Second Road, The Isan Bistro opened.

Soi 7 Bar on the Block
Bubpha Bar, located on Soi 7, is on the block.

Indian Food goes Soi 8
The long time closed Family Bar on Soi 8 is now the home of Ashwin Kitchen, an Indian Food outlet.
New Indian Restaurant and Hotel
On Pattaya Second Road, at the entrance to Soi Pattayaland 1, an Indian Restaurant and Hotel replaced the former 7-eleven Mini Mart. The Hotel is called Dehli Darbar, its restaurant Dehli Chaat Food Court.
More and more Indian Restaurants open on Pattaya Second Road, from South Road down to Central Road, serving Indian Food from almost all Indian provinces.
According to a Thai Motorcycle Taxi driver Indian Tourists create one big problem for Pattaya's traffic: Tourists from India do not use sidewalks, they walk (and hold their personal meetings) on Pattaya's streets and are therefore a danger for all motorized road users.
If you are an Indian Tourist reading this site, please tell your compatriots to use Pattaya's sidewalks. We know that Pattaya's sidewalks are anything else than comfortable to walk on, but the city's streets aren't better...
Turkuaz
Opposite Boyztown, Turkuaz, a Turkish Cafe and Restaurant, opened its door on Pattaya 2nd Road.
New Pizza Outlet in South Pattaya
Just opposite the now closed Cucumber Restaurant Domino's Pizza is ready to open its third outlet in Pattaya.

We keep you posted.
No more Domicil on Pattaya Second Road
The bad news is, that Domicil, the wellknown Austrian Restaurant located on Pattaya Second Road between Soi 8 and Soi7, closed down.
The good news is, that Domicil's branch located behind the Memorial Hospital remains open and is still serving tasty Austrian food.
Savoey Sea Food Restaurant closed down
The once popular Savoey Sea Food Restaurant closed down. It was located on the Central Road / Second Road intersection.
It's just another proof that Pattaya is badly missing the financially strong tourists from Europe and Russia.

Don't let the EU take control of the UK!

Pattaya claims to be a world-class beach resort. It's a lie! The city is not even capable to present an event calendar.
Most events are announced only a few days before they happen.
Other cities or even whole regions publish event calendars or event books covering all events of a year.
Pattaya suffers from megalomania.

No Alcohol Days
Thailand's National No Alcohol Days include Buddhist holidays and election days.
On all oher days alcohol can only be sold between 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-24:00.
Vendors caught breaking the ban are liable to a prison sentence of up to six months, a 10'000 Baht fine or both - but local Police use their own discretion to decide which venues need to be visited and fined...
Don't start laughing:
Do not try to buy non alcoholic beers (available from Clausthaler and Oettinger in this country).
The shops won't sell them during dry days.
Some not even sell Soda Water, because Thais and their Police associate it with (Thai) Whisky...

Electric Vehicles use batteries and batteries are not only a threat to our planet during manufacturing, the 'Recycling' of batteries is still an unsolved problem in most countries.
If the power for charging the batteries is generated by fossil or nuclear power plants then the LCA (life cycle assessment) turns completely to the worse.

Solar Cells are a threat to our planet:

Cadmium is banned from most products in almost all countries, but it can be used without restrictions in Solar Cells. Who controls the 'Recycling' of Solar Cells?

Apple Slow Down
Apple instructed component suppliers to withhold part of the component shipments prepared for the production of iPhone X devices.
Obviously Apple's new flagship isn't the success the company predicted.
Huawei tops Apple
Huawei has surpassed Apple for the first time in global smartphone sales.
The Chinese company has become the new number two, just behind Samsung.
But with the launch of its new US$1000 iPhone 8 flagship Apple could change the rangking again.
This world has too many people that like to show that they have the money to buy every shit.

Entry charge for Thai nationals remains 40 Baht for adults and 20 Baht for children.
To cover the inequity the local's prices are printed in Thai script only.
Do not ride Jet Ski in Pattaya!
No progress on Jet Ski saga:
Pattaya City Hall still doesn't do anything to stop the scam!
All the announcements made during last year were City Hall Blah-Blah only...
As long as Jet Ski vendors - respectively their victims - fill up our officials' pockets nothing will happen!
Update
(published by Pattaya Mail):
Problems with Jet Ski operators unsolved.
