Coup Leader
Coup d'état
On May 22nd at 17:00 General Prayuth Chan-ocha announced Thailand's latest Coup d'état.
The Thai Army put the country under curfew from 22:00 to 05:00.
(May 28th: 24:00 to 04:00, please read info below).
Please click here for our report about the coup and its consequences.
On May 27th at about 21:00 local General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) announced a new curfew order.
It will be enforced from midnight to 04:00, effective May 28th, 2014.
The change came after widespread complaints.
Bankok's BTS skytrain, MRT subway and Air Port Rail Link run their services from 06:00 to 23:00.
Update: Later in the evening th NCPO said it is considering whether to exempt certain tourist destinations from curfew imposition. Popular destinations, such as Pattaya and/or Phuket, may be exempted from curfew after officials deem them as being peaceful, a spokesman said.

We have to say Goodbye to Pattaya's Superintendent
General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) announced the transfer of Police Colonel Supachai Phuikaewkhum, an alleged well-wisher of the Red Shirts, to an inactive position at the National Police headquarters.
Cadbury's Pig
Pig's Chocolate
Cadbury, one of the world's most famous chocolate brands, is in hot soup in Malaysia after two of its products, Cadbury Dairy Milk Roast Almond and Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut bars, were tested by the Malaysia's health ministry to contain pig DNA.
Cadbury Confectionary Malaysia, the manufacturer, says it has withdrawn the affected products from the market.
Chocolate manufactured by Cadbury Confectionary Malaysia are on sale in Thailand as well.

Pattaya Police Chief deported
Pattaya Police Chief deported
In the dead of night, during the curfew hours, members of the Sattahip based Royal Thai Navy seized Pattaya's glamour boy, Police Colonel Supachai Phuikaewkhum, and his wife Khun Juriporn.
The Chief of Pattaya's Police Station on Soi 9 was not only known by the many advertisements placed all over Pattaya, Police Colonel Supachai and his wife also have close affiliations with the Red Shirt movement.
The whereabouts of the couple is currently unknown, but we assume they are somewhere in Bangkok, united with other prominent supporters of the Red Shirt movement.
Observing other incidents during the last few hours, it seems to be obvious that Thailand's Army is hunting members and/or supporters of the Red Shirt movement.
myLady™ already asks: Who will remove all that billboards and when?
TV Program
Like North Korea
Refering to actual TV entertainment in Pattaya, tourists told me it's like living in North Korea.
At the time of writing, no domestic or foreign TV Channels are available available, with the exeption of the sporadic messages of the Junta on some channels.
It's even worse than living in the former DDR, a visitor from Germany claimed.
PS.: Since 18:00, May 23rd, Thailand's most important media is back.
Miss Universe Thailand
Allegedly Thailand's most beautiful women
Thailand's Miss Universe Thailand Contest ended with boos and jeers for the judges.
A 22-year-old actress and former host of teen television show Strawberry Cheesecake was crowned this year's Miss Universe Thailand.
According to press reports she has good contacts to Bangkok's Elite and published negative comments about Red Shirts on her Facebook page.
She accused pro-government red-shirt supporters of being anti-monarchist, and said that the country would be cleaner without them.
If you like to see really beautiful Thai Ladies then you have to come to Pattaya and simply ignore all these (manipulated) Miss contests.
Another Earthquake hits Chiang Rai
Thailand's National Disaster Warning Centre (NDWC) had to confirm that a 5-magnitude earthquake shook Chiang Rai's Mae Lao district at 18:05 on May 13th.
On May 10th the highly educataed and highly paid experts from the NDWC has declared the current earthquake risk in northern Thailand over.
Even uneducated people know that nature isn't predicable.
Experts are always wrong.
Quake Experts
On May 5th a 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the North of Thailand.
On May 10th Thailand's National Disaster Warning Center has declared the current earthquake risk in northern Thailand over.
On May 11th at least nine aftershocks measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale occurred in three districts of Chiang Rai.
On May 12th, during the morning hours, four aftershocks occurred in Phan and Mae Suay districts of Chiang Rai province.
We adore experts.
They are always wrong, but still make good money with the sh*t they tell.
Rain comes
Power goes
The day started with some pouring rain - and as usual in such a moment - the power said good bye in a wide part of Pattaya.
No TV, no Internet, no Coffee, no Shower. I not even could make a telephone call. My charger doesn't work without power.
If your business depends on (electrical) power, do not invest in this country, and if you depend on the internet, be advised that the recovery of the internet usually needs a few hours more than the power.
Nevertheless, the companies here still believe to provide worldclass service.
The motto of Thailand's people is FUN - not Quality or Work.
Using the brain - if exists - isn't opportune in this country.
Bangkok's Elite is the proof.
PS.: It took TrueMove almost 24 hours to restore its 'high speed' internet...
Tukcom Raided
On May 2nd we reported on the latest Piracy List and mentioned that Pattaya's IT center is still full of copycat products from Samsung an Nokia.
Only a few days later, on May 5th, fifty Officers from the Police Region 2 Intellectual Property Rights Unit raided the center on Pattaya's South Road, seized counterfeit goods worth an estimated 1.2 Million Baht and arrested 26 shop owners and sales assistants.
I never will understand why a NoName Product can't be sold as a NoName Product in this country...
Extremly strong Earthquake in Chiang Rai
An extremly strong Earthquake happened at 18:08 about 27km from Chiang Rai.
The Earthquake had a 6.0 magnitude on the Richter Scale.
According to experts this earthquake is a dangerous strike/slip earthquake where the main movement of the ground is horizontal. Houses who are not build with an earthquake resistance have a hard time to survive in the epicenter area. The movement can either be from the North-West to the South-East or or from the South-West to the North-East.
People in Chiang Mai report that the earthquake lasted about 20 to 30 seconds. No property damage report, just moderate shaking like on a small, still boat hit by large waves.

Cheating Thais
The Thai Embassy in Brussels warns:
Some Thai tour agencies apply for Schengen visas with a Schengen country complete with hotel bookings and in line with the other requirements.
When the visas are approved, the tour agencies cancel all the bookings and its customers travel to other countries instead.
Such a practice could cause direct problems for Thai tourists and the country's image as they could be rejected for entry into a country should the immigration officials learn about the scam, the Embassy claims.
Thailand remains on Piracy List
The US Trade Representative (USTR) decided that Thailand will remain on the list of the world's worst intellectual property (IP) violators for another year.
According to the US, Thailand still is turning a blind eye to widespread piracy of software, entertainment and branded goods.
Thailand's National Intellectual Property Right Centre of Enforcement is cooperating with 25 state agencies relating to intellectual property rights. They should scrutinize the MBK Centre, Chatuchak market, Siam Square, Sukhumvit Road and Patpong night markets in Bangkok; Karon and Patong beaches in Phuket, Tukcom in Pattaya and Rong Klua market at the Aranyaprathet border crossing.
The agencies do an 'excellent' job: At the time of writing Tukcom is full of copies of Samsung and Nokia phones...
Thailand joins Algeria, Argentina, Chile, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia and Venezuela as the world's worst intellectual property (IP) violators.
Singapore Airlines restores
On May 1st Singapore Airlines (SIA) decided to restore its five daily flights between the Thai capital and the island republic.
SIA claims that demand began to pick up with the improved sentiment for travel to Bangkok.
Virus alert
Thailand's Public Health Ministry has ordered its 53 health provincial offices to set up a disease surveillance system for the risk of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
The risk of the disease making its way into Thailand is possible because about 18'000 people from Middle East countries travel in the country and about 14'000 Thai Hajj pilgrims and other Thai tourists left for the Middle East region last month.
Garbage Town Pattaya obviously miss educated Officials
Pattaya City Hall claims that Pattaya's and Koh-Larn Island's villagers and tourists produce around 400 tons of garbage and rubbish each month.
The same source says that Pattaya collects 10 tons per day but Koh-Larn Island 20-30 tons of garbage per day.
It seems that Mr.Aumnuaythanawit Sompongtham, the chief of Pattaya cleaning and environment committee at City Hall, has to go back to school...
Police News
Crackdown announced
Pattaya City Hall anounced once again a crackdown on street vendors and peddlers who sell food and beverage on Pattaya's Beach (Road).
According to Anupong Putthanawarat, chief of a Peace Preservation and Administrative Department (PPAD), Foreigners and Thais have complained to Pattaya's administrator that the vendors are causing traffic congestion and made the road and footpath dirty and smelly.
Theerasak Jatupong, director of the Peace Preservation and Administrative Department (PPAD), announced a complete clampdown to enforce Beach Road to be a vendor free zone.
Police has to catch the vendors and confiscate their belongings, he said.
Perhaps Police should do the same with the motorcycle lenders.
Since the last 'crackdown', most of them are already back on Beach Road and are blocking the badly needed parking space.
A few years ago our lovely but lazy Police announced that they will take tough actions against double row parked vehicles.
Nothing happened.
During the evening hours Pattaya's Baht Bus drivers park their cars in a second row on Pattaya's congested Second Road, between Soi Pattayaland and the entry to Baywalk.
During the day you can enjoy two and three row parking on Walking Street.
Police patrol - but close the eyes - or open their hands...
300kgs of Marijuana seized in Pattaya
On May 1st Police arrested 4 people and sized over 300kgs of the class 5 drug Marijuana in East Pattaya and Naklua.
The gang said they purchased the drugs in Laos. Their intended was to sell it in Pattaya to Thais and Foreigners.
A big Bravo to the Police!
But the best

Jobless Baht Bus Drivers thanks to new Law?
On Sunday, May 11th, 2014, a new law comes into effect. It forces passengers of all public transport vehicles to buckle up.
Passengers found not to be wearing a seat belt will be fined 5'000 Baht immediately without exception, Asdsathai Rattanadilok Na Phuket, director-general of the Department of Land Transport, announced.
New Law
It's a useful law, but, as usually in this funny country, obviously implemented by completely brainless Lawmakers.
New Law
The term all public transport vehicles includes Baht Busses, all kind of Tuk-Tuks, Railway Cars and even Pattaya's notorious Police Pick-up cars used to collect Pattaya's Coconut Ghosts. As it is, it's not possible to enforce the new law. Therefore it will open just another door to the our ingenious police to collect money à discretion.

Pattaya's Summer of Love
Last month Pattaya Police Colonel Supachai Phuikaewkhum, Pattaya's Police Chief, told the press that he is concerned about the fact that Pattaya will only be known for its sex industry and crime.
Our pictures show that his concerns are groundless.
As our beloved Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome says, Pattaya is the perfect Family Resort. The only problem he faces: Who on Earth believes that?
myLady™ believes that Itthiphol Kunplome is wrong. Pattaya never was a Family Resort - and never will be one. Pattaya is a Animal Resort, she says.
This City is full of Dogs, Cats and - Buffaloes from all over the world, myLady™ claims.

Raise Buffaloes
On April 19th, 2014, a frustrated customer of Thailand Post published a two-and-a-half minute video clip on YouTube. The clip shows a folded envelope and a damaged picture inside, despite the envelope was clearly marked with a 'Do Not Fold' notice.
He recommended Thailand's Post Staff if you can't do your job then go raise buffaloes at home.
Many netizens shared their thoughts on the national state-owned Thai postal service, complaining they were also disappointed by its services.
Just a few days later, on April 24th, the postman brought two envelopes to my home. The first one I opened was from Tesco/Lotus and contained some coupons. They where competely useless. The coupons already expired on April 20th, 2014. The letter took more than one month from Bangkok to Pattaya.
The second letter was from the Government of my home country. It contained the documents for the February 9th, 2014, poll. The Government despatched the documents on December 23rd, 2013. The envelope need a full four months to reach my home.
It seems that the staff at Thailand Post got infected by Suthep Thaugsuban's don't-work flu!
PS.: On April 28th, 2014, I got another letter from the Government of my home country. It contained the documents for the May 18th poll. The letter was despatched on April 10th, 2014. Obviously somebody waked up or did realize that Suthep Thaugsuban tells sh*t only.
We do it the most stupid way
Beach Redevelopment
Pattaya City Hall started its beach-restoration project during the last days of April 2014. Where other Beach Resorts reclaim the sand from the sea, the clever people from Pattaya buy (expensive) sand elsewhere, transport it to our lovely beach(es) and fill it up into sacks. Then they 'open' the beach and place the sacks under the existing sand.
The procedure was recommended by the highly educated people from Pattaya's Burapha University and the Aquatic Resources Research Institute, under Chulalongkorn University. The whole exercise cost 468 million Baht.
We showed the pictures specialists in redeveloping beaches. We can't publish what they told us about the 'experts' recommending such a stupidity.
We are all waiting for the next rain. It will wash away the sand and we will walk above the beautiful sacks...

Since many months the MBK Market-sign hangs over Pattaya's Second Road promising an Unique Shopping Experience for Pattaya, but the building is still empty. Most of the small shops the landlord built along the sidewalk when erecting the MBK Market-sign already disappeared.
No demand for a (unlicensed?) copy of Bangkok's popular MBK Center?
PS.: On April 10th, 2012, Bangkok's MBK Group annonced that it was considering the development of a mixed-used property project worth Bt5 billion to Bt6 billion on an 18-rai (nearly 3 hectares) plot it owns on Pattaya's Beach Road. The Montien Hotel currently occupies the spot. Its lease with MBK allegedly expired during January 2013. The spot at Pattaya's 2nd Road was for many years the home of Pattaya Bowling.

Boots (Thailand) raised the prices for almost all other vitamin tablets accordingly.
The tablets are made in Thailand.
Thai Work Force
Thailand's Labour Ministry has identified seven professions that Thais will have an edge when the Asean Economic Community is formed late in 2015:
Manual or semi-automatic metal active gas (MAG) welders, tungsten inert gas (TIG) carbon steel or stainless steel welders, HDPE pipe welders, steel pipe assemblers and fitters, carpenters, Thai masseurs and Thai-food cooks.
Thai skilled workers are well known for their quality works and in high demand in countries such as Singapore and Brunei, a spokesman of the ministry claims and adds that this is especially the case for Thai-food restaurants such as cooks and waiters.
For more information about Thailand's highly educated workforce click here.

Before you buy a new Camera read this:
Sensor Sizes
The number of pixels, the size of the sensor and the quality of the lenses determine the quality of the pictures a camera shoots.
Sony α7R
Sony α7R: 36.4-megapixel Full-Frame (36.00x24.00mm) Exmor CMOS image sensor
Canon PowerShot A2600
Canon PowerShot A2600: 16.0 Megapixel 1/2.3-inch (6.17x4.55mm) CCD image sensor
Sony α7R
Sony a7R: Detail 1:1. Not manipulated.
Canon PowerShot A2600
Canon PowerShot A2600: Detail 1:1 Not manipulated.
The Quintessence
To get the same quality as the 36.4-megapixel Full-Frame (36.00x24.00mm) sensor, a 16-megapixel sensor has to have the size of an APC-C sensor (23.6x15.6mm). If the sensor is smaller, it introduce more noise.
Sorry, but that's the reality.
In other words, should a 1/2.3-inch sensor produce the same quality in noise it will record a 1'260x945 pixel (1.19 Megapixel) picture. If it has more pixels, the sensor will introduce more noise. The examples published above are the proof.
Todays CMOS sensors not only are a lot faster, they also produce less noise than CCD based sensors, especially visible in low light conditions. Therefore please forget all the information Japan's camera maker told you during the last few years about the superior quality of CCD sensors. It's simply not (longer) true.
If you look out for a new camera, choose wisely - and read the reviews published by Steve's Digicams.
