Holy Ramadan is the month of Fasting for all Muslim around the World.
Muslims fasting in the month of Ramadan must abstain from food, drink and sex from dawn to dusk.
Ramadan started on July 9th, 2013. It ends on August 7th, 2013.
Insufficient!
The oil disaster
Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi conceded that Thailand lacks sufficient equipment to deal with the situation and prevent the oil slick from reaching the shore. Thai authorities should seek help from Singapore, he said.
Singapore has the proper equipment and the knowledge to contain oil slicks.
Thai Environmental Health Association secretary-general Sonthi Kotchawat said the authorities and PTTGC had acted too slowly to prevent the catastrophe.
It's just the proof that Thailand's existing emergency action plan for oil spills is insufficient.

50'000 litres of crude oil threaten Rayong's tourist beaches!
Please click here for the latest information about the incident.
A new report says 70 tonnes of crude oil were leaked by a pipe at an offshore platform.
Thailand's Navy, the Marine Department, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, the Pollution Control Department, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department were struggling to clean up the oil slick, which was about 800m wide and 2.5km long at the time of writing.
With the help of strong winds Rayong's oil slick is moving to Koh Samet's beaches.
On Monday 29th PTT Global Chemical Plc, the owner of the brocken pipe, and the Royal Thai Navy say the oil slick has been contained.
Update: Residents of Koh Samet claim NOT TRUE!
Ao Prao Beach
At Ao Prao Beach oil is still washing ashore. Clean up crews just arrived this morning (July 29th, 2013).
Update #2 (14:45):
Ao Phrao Beach on Koh Samet island was closed and tourists had to move away from the popular beach.
People believe that the amount of oil that leaked from a PTT Global Chemical Plc (PTTGC) pipeline on Saturday was much more than the 50'000 litres the company admits to.
PTT Global Chemical Plc (PTTGC) apologised on Monday for the oil spill from its pipeline that has damaged a beach on Koh Samet.
Chief executive Anon Sirisaengtaksin said his company planned to have the area cleaned up and restored by Thursday, August 1st.
Update #3 (July 30th):
A PTTGC representative said it would take at least 15 days to clean up the area.
As of July 29th evening, about 10 tonnes of oil had been recovered from the beach.
PTTGC first announced that max 10% of oil reached the island...
Update #4 (July 30th, 15:00):
There are now three beaches covered with PTTGC's crude oil:
Ao Phrao and Makham on Koh Samui and Ban Phe Beach on mainland in front of Rayong.
Tourists apparently show no confidence in the clean-up operations and are cancelling bookings for Koh Samet
Tourist safety
The United States, England and Australia issued tourist warnings.
The countries are highlighting Thailand's poor road conditions, unsafe drivers and lenient law enforcement.
Just to support the claims Thailand's Metropolitan Police Bureau published a statistical report which showed that crimes including murder, assault, rape, theft and robbery have increased in Bangkok in the past six months.
We ignore every Law
Today I'm drinking coffee...
July 22nd and July 23rd were Buddhist holidays.
During these days the selling of any kind of alcohol is prohibited by law.
Nevertheless, at some selected venues Farangs could get their beers hidden in coffee mugs.
In 3 restaurants a few kilometers outside Pattaya City the waiters served the Heineken bottles even with ordinary beer glasses.
It seems that some influential Thai people can run their businesses above the current law(s).

The comeback of an old Tradition?
The comeback of an old tradition?
A few years ago our lovely City Hall announced every few month the crackdown on Motorcycle-rentals on Pattaya's prestigious Beach Road.
After the announcement the vehicles usually disappeared for a few hours or days.
Rumors say that the officials used that time to negociate with the rental bosses, When they reached an acceptable agreement (acceptable for the involved officials), the motorcycle-rental boothes could reappear on Beach Road.
On July 9th, 2013, Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh and Banglamung District Chief Sakchai Taengho decided to reactivate that old tradition and invited police, regulatory-enforcement officers and operators of minibuses, taxis and motorbike- and car-rental agents to a meeting at City Hall.
Area officials announced the beginning of a crackdown on the makeshift businesses. They also promised the clearing of sidewalks to free parking spaces.
More regulation, including bus parking and large motorcycle rentals, our lovely officials will announce during another meeting scheduled for August 6th, 2013.
Perhaps with results in the very old tradition...
A new Trend?
No - Superstition!
The Go-Go Clubs that opened during the last few weeks they all opened in unfinished premises. During the working hours we still could spot construction workers, carpenters and electricians in the new clubs - sometimes even weeks after the opening dates.
It's nor because the owners of the new club need your money urgently. It's because of a widespread superstition:
The opening date of a business here in Thailand usually has to be calculated by monks in a temple. Thais believe that without the help of the monk(s) almost all business(es) will fail.
If you marry your Thai girlfriend your bride will go to the temple too, and will let calculate the perfect date for your marriage.
My former wife made it too.
To have a happy life I had to marry on December 10th. To please my wife I did it!
Nevertheless, all the paper I got from the Thai government say that I married on the 12th.
It never got corrected. The officials called it a misunderstanding...
Ten years later I got divorced - also here in Thailand. This time with the correct date.
But I know why my marriage didn't work:
The Monk insisted that he has to calculate the date according the information in my papers, even when I told him that the documents don't tell the true.
All my papers tell that I was born on the 5th of a month. It's wrong!
According to my parents I was born on the 4th, but a lazy (and perhaps lousy) official in Switzerland put the wrong date in my birth certificate.
I am confident if the monk did use the correct date I still would be married with my Thai wife - but believe me or not: I would miss the best time of my life...
Therefore I think, I have to thank all that officials and monks for their lousy works. Without their mistakes I never would have the life I enjoy today here in Pattaya...

Only 12 from 46 rice samples free of chemical substances
Thailand's Foundation for Consumers released the results of 46 random samples of packaged rice sold under 36 brands.
They collected the rice between June 19 and 27, 2013, from supermarkets, retail shops and department stores.
An independent laboratory tested the samples for chemical substances, including methyl bromide, organophosphate, carbamate compounds and fungicide.
The tests showed that 12 of the 46 samples were free of contamination.
Traces of methyl bromide were found in 33 samples, but they did not exceed the 50mg per kg published by the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) codex as safe.
1 sample exceeded the safe level with 67.4 milligram per kg.
Its distributer said it would recall all tainted products from the market but added that he was not thinking of filing a lawsuit against the foundation yet...

Playboy Condoms
More Thai men are now over 170 centimetres tall and exceed 70 kilogrammes in weight. They can no longer use condoms with sizes of 49mm and 52mm, the director-general of Thailand's Disease Prevention and Control Department said.
Small condoms make them feel uncomfortable, he added.
About 230 million condoms are sold nationwide each year.
Thailand's Ministry of Public Health and the National Health Security Office provides 40 million condoms annually.
To cater for the needs of Thai men under 30 years of age the government plans to purchase more large-sized condoms.
Boeing's Dreamliner problems not solved?
Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner
London's Heathrow airport had to close its runways after an incident involving an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet.
There has been an on-board internal fire involving an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft.
The airport's emergency services are in attendance.
The Ethiopian Airlines Dreamliner flew from Addis Ababa to Nairobi on the first commercial flight since the grounding.
The incident happened at 16:30 BST on July 12th, 2013.
Heathrow airport reopened shortly before 18:00.
Not Healthy
The streets in the World's best City are stuffy, noisy and polluted, Thailand's Department of Environment says.
The noise levels at all roads across the capital are well above the safety standard of 70 dB.
Particle pollution levels along many roads in Bangkok are above all safety standards too.

World's best City
According to the latest survey, Bangkok was voted the World's best City. It's for the fourth year in a row that the readers of the Travel & Leisure magazine placed the Thai capital as #1!
A few weeks before MasterCard's Worldwide Global Destination Cities Index 2013 already named Bangkok as the World's best City for Tourism.
On October 5th, 2009, CNN Travel published 50 reasons why Bangkok has to be the World's No. 1 City. It's a must to read (and to know).

Dengue Fever Warning
Thailand's Public Health Ministry fears that the sharp upsurge in dengue fever could hit a record high of 120'000 cases this year.
Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong said he will employ more than a million volunteers from July 10-17 to combat mosquitoes in residential areas, schools and temples while educating people about the disease.
There have been 59'318 reported cases and 68 deaths so far this year in Thailand.

They are brand marked as Kone.

Police News
Moulin Rouge raided
Moulin Rouge
During the early morning hours of July 28th Pattaya Police and Banglamung District Licensing Officials raided Walking Street's Moulin Rouge A Go-Go Club and arrested 11 Russian employees.
The Russians worked without the necessary Thai Work Permits.
No information available what will happen with the club and its manager(s).
Update:
On July 29th the club opened as if nothing ever had happened.
It seems all the arrests where a simple misunderstanding:
Our Police don't speak Russian and the ladies do not understand Thai.
The two groups had to find some common ground on which to base...
Busy Police
Pattaya Police report that they arrested 9 foreigners at an illegal casino in South Pattaya as well as 7 foreigners and 2 Thai men running a 20 Million Baht ATM Card Fraud here in Pattaya and 12 suspected gamblers playing the popular dice game Hi-Low.
A Pattaya Police Volunteer overpowered 2 necklace snatcher.
Last but not least, Banglamung Police officers arrested 6 suspects of a major drug dealing group.
Bravo! Good work.
Less work with a 'suicide'!
Because of our lazy Police Thailand has a lot of suicide cases.
During November 2012 Police told Nittaya Salae that her daughter had hanged herself.
But Ms Nittaya couldn't believe that. She started her own investigation and presented the murderer of her daughter to the police.
Please read the latest update (July 21st) too!
Update (July 30th):
Prosecutors now reject Police's suicide theory!
It doesn't happen only on Koh Samui, Police all over Thailand likes to declare suicides - even here in Pattaya.
Drug Police arrested
Pol Sen Sgt Maj Sunthorn, a patrol officer with the Chum Phae district station and an officer responsible for drug cases, was caught on July 19th with 1'096 methamphetamine pills and four grammes of crystal methamphetamine.
Police had to act after local residents complained that Pol Sen Sgt Maj Sunthorn had extorted illegal drugs, money and possessions from the people he arrested.
Pol Sen Sgt Maj Sunthorn confessed that the drugs in his possession were all from local arrests. With the sell of drugs the lovely Policemen planned to pay off his debts.
Same stupid procedure
No matter who is the Superintendent at Pattaya's Police Station on Soi 9, the officials play the same dirty game almost every evening.
They arrest as many coconut ghosts they can catch, bring them to Soi 9, collect 100 Baht/person and let them go back to the Beach.
The pretentious Superintendent calls this procedure cleanup.
We call it stupid!
It perfectly reveals the IQ of the involved officials.

On Pattaya's 3rd Road, just a few meters from Tony's well-known Fitness-Center, Pattaya's famous Tony's Group opened the Lido 2 Motel.
The Motel announces rooms starting at about 5'000 Baht/month for longtime rents. The rent even includes the use of Tony's Gym - but not the water and the electricity.
The motel is in the style of a Horn Thew (Thai for room with a roof). That means you enter the room through a shared balcony, and not through a dark corridor.
Tony's run its own website, but at the time of writing the website doesn't provide any information about Tony's new motel. If you need more information please use the phone numbers published above.

Incompetent People are responsible for the maintenance of Pattaya's Streets
This is an actual picture from Soi Chaiyaphoon, a street connecting Soi Buakhaow with Pattaya's 3rd Road. During last year the street got a new surface. It just survived the first few rain drops.
The same is true for Soi Pattyaland 1, officially known as Soi 13/3 as well as for Soi Arunothai and a lot of other street in this worldknown Beach Resort.
Officials never asked why the holes in the streets come back after every few months. They just put on some new asphalt and wait until someone complains again.
We don't know if Pattaya's Officials are too lazy or too stupid to use their brain(s). Perhaps they simply can't find a working one...
We published this report on July 1st. On July 5th, and to the surprise of all, a troup from City Hall started improving Soi Pattayaland 1. Let's hope they will do the same for Soi Chaiyaphoon.

Traffic Regulations in Thailand
Traffic Signs in Thailand
During the last few months we compared official traffic signs and regulations from Thailand with the signs and regulations in Western countries.
We couldn't find any discrepancies. Almost all signs and regulations in Thailand are up to the international standards.
The problem:
Nobody in Pattaya - as well as in other parts of this funny country - is accepting the rules.
Everybody, including Police and City Officials, makes his or her very own regulations, just fitting the actual situation.
Important Exceptions:
At Traffic lights every color is green - but for drivers with a valid Thai identity card only.
After 24:00, when Police is dislocating to Pattaya Beach and Walking Street, all traffic regulations are obsolete - null and void.
Cables in Pattaya
On July 4th, 2013 City Hall's Councilors talked about the problems of sagging electric cables. They agreed that the cables are a potential danger to the public. They told the press that plans are afoot to replace them and to bury them underground in the near future.
City Hall told us about the same story on April 11th, 2012. We never saw an improvement of the situation.

July 28th, 2013:
Fake al-Qaeda death threats against former Prime Minister
A video posted on YouTube was making death threats against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The first upload to YouTube was removed by the company.
It reappeared several hours after that from a different uploader. It also was removed.
Therefore the people behind the attack posted a third version of the video. It also was taken down by YouTube .
Thailand's Information and Communication Technology Ministry (ICT) will investigate the origin of the video.
National Security Council secretary-general Paradorn Pattanatabut said the video was done by members of the anti-government white-mask group.
The white-mask group is the successor of the former yellow shirt movement.
The People's Army against the Thaksin Regime announced new rallies. The group has been formed from remnants of the Pitak Siam movement, also an offspring of the yellow shirts, as is the multi-coloured-shirts movement and People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), the Green Politics Group and Thai Spring.
They all are supported in some way by Bangkok's so called Elite, at least a part of Thailand's powerful Military and Thailand's (un)Democratic Party, managed by Opposition Leader and former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Abhisit Vejjajiva was installed as Thailand's Prime Minister with the help of Thailand's Military on December 17th 2008, not by free and democratic elections. He and his party suffered in the parliamentary elections of 2011.
Despite the fact that Abhisit Vejjajiva was born in England, attended the Eton College and earned bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Oxford the only thing that is democratic in his party is the name of the organisation.
Abhisit Vejjajiva is a typical representative of Bangkok's notorious Elite.

Gangsters with connections to influential politician(s)
On July 1st Police at Nakhon Ratchasima raided the Chok Chai Cable TV CTH, a cable TV shop in Chok Chai district.
The Police arrested 10 people at the office that allegedly was the centre of a large underground lottery system.
The people arrested included Roongruang Wongtrairat, the older brother of Bhumjaithai Party deputy leader and MP for Nakhon Ratchasima, Boonjong Wongtrairat. He acted as the bookie.
The shop itself belongs to Mr Roongruang. His younger brother, Mr Boonjong, was a deputy interior minister in the Abhisit Vejjajiva administration from 2008 to 2011.
The underground lottery ring with the alleged links to Mr Roongruang and his associates is a major gambling operation, involving more than 300 so-called "agents" who run bets in three local districts of Chok Chai, Nong Bunnak and Chalerm Phrakiat. Each agent allegedly takes and records bets from local gamblers on paper sheets, and forwards records to the gang.
Because all the suspects confessed to all charges, the police released them on bail of 20'000 Baht each on the same day. However, two days later on July 3rd, just hours before they were to appear in court, all 10 of the charged men denied they had confessed...
It's a sad fact in this country that many polticians have strong connections with family members engaged in crimes.

Thailand's Miraculous Education System
On July 15th Chulalongkorn University had to issue an apology on Facebook for a graduation mural in the middle of the campus that featured an image of former German dictator and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler among a host of comic book superheroes.
The Chulalongkorn University is widely regarded as Thailand's most prestigious institution of education...
In 2009, the Louis Tussaud's Waxworks museum had to took down a giant advertising poster of Hitler giving a Nazi salute with the Thai-language slogan Hitler is not dead.
Stupidity never dies in Thailand: On Pattaya's Walking Street a vendor offers almost every evening flags and hemets with Nazi emblems...
No Joke:
Thanks to Thailand's highly sophisticated Education System many people here still think that Adolf Hitler is the German version of Charlie Chaplin...
