Itthiphols Family Resort of Pattaya
Itthiphol Kunplome, our lovely, well educated and clever Mayor of Pattaya is touting our City as a Family Resort. He don't know what he is speaking about.
His Family Resort is missing bicycle lanes and parking spaces for bikes. Most streets are bumpily, have deep holes and are simply dangerous for all children trying to drive a bicycle. The City not even provides children's playgrounds.
Pattaya's sidewalks are dangerous too, likewise for your high-heeled shoes and your feet. If you are not very cautiously an achier torn ligament can be the result. Be warned: The City doesn't pay for its failures!

August 30th 2012:
Thailand's Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has announced a hike in park entrance fees from October 1st 2012 at 29 national parks countrywide.
For Thais the park entrance fee will rise from 40 Baht to 100 Baht, respectively from 80 Baht to 100 Baht.
For foreigners the park entrance fee will rise from 200 Baht to 500 Baht, respectively from 400 Baht to 500 Baht.
The department's spokesman claims the top national parks are suffering from too many tourists and the new fees will be a deterrent to help fight deterioration of a sensitive environment.
But the very same spokesman also added that the department will use the additional revenue to improve facilities to better serve tourists...

Bangkok Traffic Police announced that taxi drivers who refuse passengers will be liable to arrest and immediate fines from September 1st, 2012.
If a taxi refuses to take the passenger, he or she must immediately report to the nearest police station.
The complainants must inform police of the taxi's registration number and colour of the car.
Complainants should record the conversation on their cell phones for use as evidence, but the recording should be done discreetly to make sure that the taxi driver does not react violently, the Bangkok Police said.

September 2nd 2012:
The chief of Thailand's Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, secretary-general Dussadee Arayawuth, faces the prospect of being transferred following his investigation into several corruption cases involving high-ranking politicians and state officials...
Update: On September 04 Thailand's cabinet approved the transfer of Pol Col Dusadee Arayawuthi to a position as deputy permanent secretary for justice. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said 'Pol Col Dusadee's transfer had nothing to do with his investigation. He is a capable person. As a deputy permanent secretary for justice he will continue to oversee the PACC and will actually oversee it in a larger picture'...

September 3rd 2012:
Pol Lt-Col Pannapon Nammuang, a superintendent of Bangkok's Thong Lor Police Station, was transferred to an inactive post for allegedly arresting a false driver after a road accident that killed a police officer.
Vorayuth Yoovidhya, the 27-year old son of a top executive of the world-famous Red Bull empire, also known as Boss, was arrested. He allegedly drove his 32 million Baht expensive black Ferrari into a motorcycle and then sped away.
After the incident, Pol Lt-Col Pannapon Nammuang attempted to detain the wrong suspect for questioning to manipulate the situation and make him a scapegoat. He arrested Suwes Hom-ubon, the 45-year old family driver of the suspect, who usually looks after the family's vehicles.
Update: The accused officer denied he had any intention to arrest the wrong person. But Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, who oversees police affairs, said the police inspector is believed to have a close relationship with the Yoovidhya family.

September 3rd 2012:
Despite a warning from Thailand's Military (please read here) Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) reported its progress in the investigation into 89 deaths during the 2010 red-shirt riots.
It says that a total of 36 deaths were likely to have been caused by security forces.
The victims, red-shirt demonstrators, soldiers and others, were killed during the April-May protests and ensuing riots.

September 7th 2012:
Justice Minister Pracha Promnok has again defended his controversial transfer decision of Pol Col Dusadee Arayawuthi, Thailand's Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission secretary-general. I'm not trying to offend or demote Pol Col Dusadee but the scope of his previous job is too narrow and I want him to oversee narcotics suppression in a bigger picture, the Minister said.
But a Justice Ministry source said the transfer would free Pol Col Dusadee Arayawuthi of the graft-busting projects he had been working on, notably the alleged imports of undervalued luxury cars to avoid tax, and the complicity of politicians and state officials in the racket.

September 9th 2012:
Bangkok's Metropolitan Police Bureau Chief announced that the capital will install one million more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to improve public safety.
The operation would be carried out under the Miracle Eyes project aimed at using security cameras for crime prevention and suppression.
The security cameras will be set up at important government installations such as Government House, parliament, residences of important persons, business establishments and in residential areas.

Thailand's Interior Ministry issued an order barring ministry officials nationwide from visiting Facebook during working hours. The ministry also banned its officials from making excessive phone calls.
In addition to Facebook some other unidentified websites offering audio-visual downloads that are of no use for bureaucratic work will also be blocked, the ministry informed its officials.
Nevertheless, some officials still believe using Facebook can help the government reduce phone bills and unnecessary paperwork and actually speed up the work of the bureaucracy...

September 16th 2012:
Police is investigating into missing rice worth 200 million Baht at a warehouse in Nakhon Ratchasima.
About 1'000 tonnes of pledged rice stored at Thanya Rungruangchai rice mill in Muang district could not be located when the Public Warehouse Organisation did an inspection in June.

September 19th 2012:
Thailand's parliament president invited 39 media staff, columnists and some of his close aides on a nine-day 'study trip' to Europe.
The three-country trip costs Thailand's taxpayers about 7 million Baht and includes attendances at 2 English Premier League matches in London.

September 24th 2012:
Accusations of fraud and illegal profiteering in the Thai Premier League were answered last week, while multiple other allegations of corruption, cover-ups and conflicts of interest continue to dog football in Thailand.
Many football clubs are managed by Thailand's politicians. Wittaya Khunpluem, a brother of Pattaya's current Mayor, is the chairman of Chonburi's Football Club (known as the Sharks). Sonthaya Khunpleum, another member of our Mayor's family and a former Minister of Science and Technology, is the chairman of Pattaya United F.C. His wife, Sukumol Kunplome, is Thailand's minister of culture since 2011. The father of this illustrious family, Som-chai Kunplome, is a well well-known criminal. Allegedly he is hiding himself in Cambodia.

September 26th 2012:
The number of methamphetamine pills (known as Yaba) confiscated in the past year rose to 73 million from 45 million in the previous year, while the amount of crystal methamphetamines (known as Ya Ice) seized had gone up to 1'446 kilogrammes from 1'058kg, Thailand's Office of the Narcotics Control Board says.
Yaba is the most popular drug used by people aged 15 to 24 in Thailand, up to 90 percent of crystal methamphetamine seized in Thailand was produced across the border in Myanmar and Laos.
The dramatic rise of methamphetamine and yaba use in Thailand can be partly blamed on the lack of education regarding these harmful drugs. The number of women using methamphetamine has increased and the majority of them mistakenly believe that the drug can help make them more beautiful, a recent study says.
Some people believe that yaba and methamphetamine is the same drug; in fact, there is a slight difference. Methamphetamine is chemically made. Yaba is a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine. Yaba usually comes in the form of a small round tablet, methamphetamine must be crushed into a powder.
In Thailand, Yaba is the preferred drug of choice, but methamphetamine use is on the rise.
